Planting Happiness

Yesterday, we planted our summer garden.
I was inspired by a wise and talented woman to try square-foot gardening this year.
Darin built two new garden boxes, and the kids and I measured and marked and planted all afternoon.

The children got to choose their own plants and seeds to plant and enjoyed making markers for their boxes.

This was certainly a family project and we are all very excited to have added these 2 boxes to our regular garden, which we will be planting several zucchini and corn in.

Box #1-
Strawberries, green onions, cucumbers, snap peas and jalapeno

Box #2
Romaine lettuce, cilantro, green beans, tomatoes, broccoli and sunflowers

The kids found an injured butterfly and enjoyed "taking care" of it

What a beautiful day and a wonderful time we had together in the yard. We can't wait to start munching on our own homegrown fruits and veggies!

I wish you lived closer to teach me how to grow yummy fruits and veggies. The house we are buying has garden boxes and I have no idea how to grow anything. I guess we all have to start sometime.
