Run Run as fast as you can!

Our friends, the Escher's were visiting last month and Aaron asked if Darin would run a race with him in January. Darin didn't seem very interested, but something inside told me I should do it. Now exercise is no stranger to me, I've spent 3 mornings a week at the gym for the past 3 years, but running.... running is not my exercise of choice. I like step aerobics, weight-lifting, kick-boxing, cycling, zumba, I love a good boot camp-type workout, really anything BUT running, so this challenge was just that, a challenge. I quickly realized was not going be a physical challenge as much as it would be a mental one. So, I downloaded an awesome play list and started running with friends, and before I knew it, I was actually enjoying training for this race! Who'd have thought?

There was something beautiful, almost sacred about getting up early and running in the morning. It felt as though I was watching the world wake up, with the sun rising and birds chirping in the crisp morning air.

My Mom was amazing and trained at home on her treadmill to do the race with me. I was so proud of her!!!

Race day was the first morning in 5 days that it hadn't poured rain. It was freezing, 41 degrees to be exact, I was wearing 3 shirts, but the snow-capped mountains were breath-taking and I finished the 3.2 miles in 29:29, which was something to be proud of.

Thank you Aaron for the challenge, Krystel for training with me and Mom for running the race by my side. I'm looking forward to the next challenge and have set a personal goal to finish a 10K and a Triathlon by the end of the year. Who's in?

My Mom and I at the starting line.

Aaron, myself and my Mom after the race.
Check out those snow-covered mountains behind us!

Our times were all 10 minutes apart, Aaron (19 min), me (29 min), my Mom (39 min).

Good job sis! Would have run it with you if I wasn't carrying 20 extra lbs of baby weight :) Maybe I'll need to challenge myself after the baby is born and run a 5 or 10K with you.

Great job, Janell! I am so proud of you. You set a goal and you accomplished it- what a great feeling! If you're planning on the tri in AZ in Dec- I am totally in. I'm planning on that as my motivation for once the baby comes.
