Mother's Day

"Of all nature's gifts to the human race, what is sweeter than children?"

My Mother's Day was the best. Friday I went to "Mom and Me on the Farm", where Julia sang her heart out, gave me a sweet homemade gift and we shared cookies and punch together.
The boys also gave me sweet, little gifts on Mother's Day that they had made at school and offered to be "my servants" for the day. They made me a cozy spot on the sofa, set up a fan, brought me water and put lotion on my feet. Then we watched a movie together and waited for Darin to get home from church.
Earlier in the morning Darin cooked a beautiful breakfast and stayed home from his early morning meetings to help get the kids ready for church. He made a delicious dinner, did all of the dishes and surprised me with a very thoughtful gift, to be redeemed during the summer. :)
I felt very blessed and very loved.

I've always wanted to be a mother. In fact, I was asked once as a senior in high school where I wanted to be in ten years and what profession I hoped to have. I replied without hesitation that I hoped to be married and more than anything I wanted to be a mother. To me, nothing is better than the role of Mommy.

Mother's day for me is a time to reflect on the day each of my children made me a mother and to remember the moment I received that perfect glimpse of heaven just by looking into their newborn eyes. From the first moment Trent was placed in my arms I knew my calling as Mom was the greatest joy I would ever know and that the greatest work I would ever do would be within the walls of my own home. It is also a day to thank Heavenly Father for the day my Mom became my mother too.

I was raised by a strong, courageous, faithful mother. For many, many years she worked 3 jobs just to pay the dance teacher, the piano teacher, to pay for my cheer leading, choir costumes and prom dresses. Mom wanted to be there to cook us a warm breakfast, see us off to school, to be the one to welcome us home when we walked in the door. There was always a homemade snack and then she sit and help with our homework. She'd wake up before the sun rose and throw papers, then get home in time to drive us to seminary. She'd spend her day baby-sitting other peoples children and sorting food boxes so she could stay home with us. Mom taught me the value of hard work, we were never spoiled. There was a warm meal on the table every morning and night, cold cereal would never do, fast food would never do. Mom took us to church every Sunday, she gave me every opportunity to learn the most important things in life and to gain a sure knowledge and testimony of the gospel. She taught me that true joy comes in sacrificing for others and in serving those we love. Mom taught me to love my brothers and sisters, to be loyal to them, to make them my best friends. How blessed I am to have many wonderful memories of my childhood and to be the person I am today, thanks to Mom.
