My Forever Friend

So, this is "THE YEAR".... the year me and all of my high school friends turn 30!!!
Fortunately for me, my birthday isn't until August, so I get to feel young for another half a year while most of my closest friends are already hitting the big 3-0.

30 is a weird age, it isn't like we're all "old", we just aren't young anymore. I definitely think it's a birthday to celebrate, so I was totally game when my friends husband called and asked if he could fly me to Utah to surprise Trenda for her 30th birthday.

I thought of posting some old high school pics on here of Trenda and I, but I'm too lazy to scan them in. Trenda and I have been friends since junior high when we met in choir. We did a lot in high school together, we were in choir, we were in cheer, we were in ASB, we were on homecoming court together, and went to every high school dance together. So, it wasn't a surprise when we decided to go to Ricks College together and eventually room together. I wrote her while she served a mission, and she wrote me back. Trenda was in my wedding and I was in hers. We've been to each others baby showers and watched our familes grow and grow over the years. Trenda is my forever friend and I was THRILLED to fly to Utah to spend time with her and her family.

Her husband Craig should win the "Husband of the Year" award for all he did for her birthday. Not only did he fly me up there, but he watched her 2 kids AND Lauren all day while we went to lunch, got pedicures, saw "Confessions of a Shopaholic".... hilarious.... especially the dance scene, and did some shopping. He told us not to come home until dinner, and when we showed up an hour early he actually sent us back out for another hour and a half.

Apparently he had been cooking all day.... a super yummy meal and even made 3 different kids of cheesecake (Trenda's favorite) FROM SCRATCH for dessert! Who does that? CRAIG DOES!
Then he surprised her by showing a DVD slideshow of her life, professionally made, it was so beautiful, I teared up. He had secretly raided her scrapbooks, scanned all the pictures in and had it made. Who does that? CRAIG DOES!

So anyway, it was amazing. I loved every minute of my time with Trenda and her family. I had so much fun that I never missed home, imagine that! Trenda and I stayed up until way after midnight every night, just talking, that's how you know someone is your FOREVER FRIEND. We could have talked all night.

Here are some fun pics of my time in Utah. I loved the snow, the mountains, the people, the clean stores, the non-ghetto Walmart. It was beautiful, I could move there and LOVE IT!
Thanks Craig, thanks Joanna (for watching my kids), and thanks Darin for being Mr. Mom so I could get away.

And.... I found this in WALMART!!!! I just had to take a picture. You know you're in Utah when there is an isle marked "Food Storage and Preparedness Items".... Ha!

And lastly, I have to mention the friend I made on my flight from Phoenix to Utah. He had recently moved to Utah 3 months prior and loved it there! After chatting for a while, he asked if I was Mormon, and had so many questions about our church. He was shocked to find out that his Mormon neighbor with the huge house did not get paid for being the Stake President. He wanted to know all about tithing and wards and temples. It was so fun. The funniest thing was how surprised he was that there were Mormons in California!!! He said he had never heard of a Californian Mormon... to funny!
